Guardian Angel
Guardian Angel
Painting size: 18" x 24" x 7/8"
Style: Oil on canvas

Description: This is a painting that took me a long time to try. I didn't know exactly how I wanted to paint the angel. I ended up selecting a simple background with the angel overlooking a cliff. Diffuse light for a little impact, but otherwise an uncluttered painting.

Pink Rose

Big Sur, CA
Big Sur, CA
Painting size: 30" x 40" x 1 1/2"
Style: Oil on canvas

Description: This is a painting I've been wanting to do for some time, but waited until now because it is so detailed. It may not seem like it by looking at it, but painting the variations in the rocks is time-consuming and tedious but worth it in the end. It's a larger painting as well, so that also adds to the complexity and time.

Four Seasons

This set of paintings is a compilation that I created for my sister. She wanted to have some of the views from her backyard painted from her original photographs. I tried to adjust the paintings so that each have a similar aspect ratio. They are certainly fortunate to have such a beautiful view from their back deck 😃

How some of the paintings I created were made

Coast to Coast

Coast to coast was an idea I had when we were all still working from home in 2020 and winter was coming. I really miss travelling and seeing the beautiful blue sky of summer and fall. I thought that I might be able to reproduce the warmth of the sun by painting some of my favorite pictures from Maine to Italy. Then I decided to add the third painting of the ocean to get a large painting that spanned an entire wall. It will be lit from above with white LEDs to simulate the sun and add more warmth. The center painting is meant to insinuate that the clouds align between Maine and the center image, but not actually be. Now when I see this trio of paintings on my wall, I'm reminded of the trips we took to these respective places and get hints of warmth in the cold, gloomy winter days of Ohio.

Portrait of Sydney, 2021

This is a portrait I did of my daughter several years after my original attempt in 2015. Personally, I think it is a huge improvement over the original portrait. I had trouble trying to capture the tilt of her head and I started off the painting making her head to big and tried to adjust for that. It was a fun painting to do and I think it turned out really good.
